A study in the United States, fruits and organic vegetables may be better for you than that been grown in plantations.

A study for 10 years comparing organic tomatoes with standard procedures, found almost 2 times the rate of flavonoid, which is one type of antioxidant. Flavonoid has shown a decrease in blood pressure, decreasing the risk of heart disease and stroke. The research team said that the nitrogen in the soil is the key. Written research reports in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry 23 June 2007 (online).

DR. Alyson Mitchell, a chemist from the University of California, and the team, measuring the amount of 2 flavonoid namely kuersetin and kaemferol, in dried tomato samples have been collected as part of the long-term research on methods of agriculture. They found that the average rate in the organic tomatoes in a sequence is 79% and 97% planted compared to the conventional. New Scientist magazine reported that the difference in the rate of flavonoid different in the tomato, because of the possibility fertilisasi in organic agriculture.

Flavonoid produced as the body's resistance mechanisms that can be triggered by defisiensi nutrients, such as lack of nitrogen in the soil. Inorganic nitrogen in the fertilisasi kovensional easily can be obtained so that the plants according to the researchers, the rate of flavonoid that may be low due to excessive fertilisasi.

Flavonoid has dihubung with the speed of the decline in some types of cancer and demensia. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said, there is some evidence that the flavonoid can help reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and is currently conducted studies to see the new health benefits with more details. However, a spokesperson said that there was no evidence of organic foods more healthy. "Our advice about organic foods are some differences in nutrients but does not mean it is better for you." As an example, a study recently found that organic milk has a rate of fatty acid Omega-3 is higher, but the FSA stressed that the fatty acid short chain does not have this support the health benefits offered, such as fatty acid Omega-3 long chain in fish oil.

Peter Meischett, Director of the Soil Association says, "We received new evidence that grow very quickly, which shows the difference in meaning between the nutritional composition of food and non-organic oraganik. This is the second study in the United States to search for meaningful differences in the organic fruit and non-organic. These findings also confirm research in Europe recently, which shows that the tomato, PEACH and organic apples have higher nutritional quality than non-organic. Soil Association will ask the FSA to continue to give nutritional advice to consumers in relation to the scientific evidence from recent research that seek the difference between organic food and non-organic.
